The Design Canopy

Finally, after about four months, the theme that has been promised in the Downloads section is now available for WordPress 2.0-2.3. (It has support for the new tag system in WordPress 2.3 too.)

I thought this would be a funny scenario, so I quickly Photoshopped a representation of the picture in my head. I decided to share it here in case anyone else got a chuckle out of it. It seems that every other post I come across is a list of some sort; it is a convenient way to write focused posts though.

I was privileged to be a judge for the recently completed Sandbox Designs Competition, a WordPress theme competition hosted by Scott Wallick, creator of the Sandbox theme.

Web galleries showcase a lot of the same sites and I visit several of them pretty regularly. Lately though, there’s been one that’s standing out from the rest.

I’m in the process of designing my first public-release theme for WordPress. It’s quite an exciting thing, but the process can be long. So I thought I would provide a screen shot of the existing state and see if anyone had any certain requests.

A month ago about 100 “rebooters” launched their redesigns and new designs in a collaborative effort called the Standards Reboot. One month later, I’ve collected my ten favorite from the group.

Sketching layouts, logos, typography, etc. is an enjoyable process of exploration. Sometimes sketching serves as a vital step in the design process and other times it’s just something fun to do.

Having a stellar Portfolio was not a high priority as I put together the first design of this site. I thought that most people would visit the About section. Now I know why everyone says you need a portfolio.

A week ago I launched this site and went live with a new design along with many others. This is just a quick summary of the two websites that covered the redesigns.

Designing this site was a long process and the reward was to participate in the May 1^st 2007 Reboot and launch the new design of my site along with other web designers.
