The Design Canopy

While working on a site I ran into an issue where I needed a certain category to be excluded from the categories associated with each post. Instead of using PHP logic statements, I decided to use one line of CSS to exclude the category.

Having browsed many themes for WordPress and creating some myself, I’ve found there is one major design issue that could easily be solved to improve the majority of available themes.

Designing with a grid is becoming more and more common as a standard approach to designing a website. When designing this site I discovered a tool to aid in pixel calculation and proper proportions that proved highly valuable.

This tutorial explains how to modify the Hemingway theme for WordPress to implement a side notes (or asides) column in place of where a second post usually resides.
